Photo Studio for Mac
Import, cull, edit RAW, print and shoot tethered in one free app. It works offline, and your photos never leave your Mac.
From the memory card to the print
Built by a working photographer for his own shoots: weddings, events, portraits and travel. The whole workflow lives in one window.
-
Import and cull
Copy from the card into dated shoot folders with a backup copy. Rate, flag and label with the keyboard, compare and survey, and let AI Cull flag closed eyes, soft focus and bursts of similar shots. Faces are grouped into People.
-
Develop
RAW processing with white balance, tone curve, color mixer, color grading, denoise and lens blur. Masks with Select Subject, healing, presets, .cube LUTs and Lightroom-style .xmp presets. Edits never touch your original files.
-
Export and print
Export JPEG, 16-bit TIFF or PNG, resized and watermarked. Print with ICC paper profiles and a soft proof that shows how the print will look.
-
Shoot tethered
Connect a Canon camera with EOS Utility and every shot appears large on screen the moment it's taken, with your develop settings already applied.
No account, no cloud, no subscription. Your catalog is a file on your Mac, and you can back it up from the app.
Opening it the first time
macOS shows a warning the first time you open the app. That is normal: Apple only skips the warning for apps signed with a paid developer account, and LumaGrader is shared directly by an independent developer. You confirm it once.
- Open the downloaded .dmg and drag LumaGrader Photo Studio into Applications.
- Open the app from Applications. When macOS says it could not verify it, click Done.
- Go to System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway.
- Enter your Mac password and click Open Anyway again. From now on it opens normally.
If macOS says the app is damaged, it's the same check worded differently. Paste this in Terminal, press Return, then open the app:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/LumaGrader Photo Studio.app"
On macOS 14 Sonoma you can instead right-click the app in Applications and choose Open.
Free and open source
The full source code is on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. Read it, build it yourself, report a bug or suggest a feature. If the app saves you time, a coffee on Ko-fi keeps it going.
Editing on a phone or PC?
The LumaGrader web editor still runs in any browser, no install needed. Projects and presets you saved before are still there.
